حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا عَاصِمٌ ثنا شُعْبَةُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ تُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أُمِّهَا
أَنَّ امْرَأَةً تُوُفِّيَ عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا فَاشْتَكَتْ عَيْنَهَا فَأَتَوُا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَاسْتَأْذَنُوهُ فِي الْكُحْلِ وَذَكَرُوا أَنَّهُمْ يَخْشَوْنَ عَلَى عَيْنِهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «قَدْ كَانَتْ إِحْدَاكُنَّ تَمْكُثُ فِي بَيْتِهَا حَوْلًا فَإِذَا كَانَ حَوْلًا رَمَتْ بِبَعْرَةٍ أَفَلَا أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا؟»

✧ A woman whose husband died complained of her eye, so they came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked his permission for kohl, and mentioned that they feared for her eye. The Prophet ﷺ said: "One of you used to stay in her house for a year. When a year had passed, she would throw a dung pellet. Is it not [now only] four months and ten [days]?"
