حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ غُلَيْبٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ هَارُونَ الرَّمْلِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى السَّاجِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهَا
أَنَّ بِنْتَ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْعَدَوِيِّ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ ابْنَتِي تُوُفِّيَ عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ وَهِيَ تُحِدُّ وَهِيَ تَشْتَكِي عَيْنَيْهَا أَفَتَكْتَحِلُ؟ قَالَ «لَا» ثُمَّ صَمَتَتْ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ قَالَتْ إِنَّهَا تَشْتَكِي عَيْنَيْهَا فَوْقَ مَا نَظُنُّ أَفَتَكْتَحِلُ؟ قَالَ «لَا» ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمَةٍ أَنْ تُحِدَّ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ إِلَّا عَلَى زَوْجٍ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا»

✧ The daughter of Nuʿaym b. ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿAdawī came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: My daughter's husband has died; she was married to al-Mughīrah al-Makhzūmī. She is observing ʿiddah and complaining of her eyes; may she apply kohl? He said: "No." Then she was silent for a while, then said: She complains of her eyes more than we think; may she apply kohl? He said: "No." Then he said: "It is not lawful for a Muslim woman to mourn more than three days except for a husband, [for whom it is] four months and ten [days]."
