al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 19601
✧ The interpretation of His saying: "Why have you not, when you heard it ('it' refers to the Prophet's ﷺ statement about the slander), yourself brought it forth by your own people, saying: ‘It is not for us to speak of this. Glory be to You (O Allah)! This is a great slander.’

✧ {"That we speak of this"} meaning "with the accusation, and our eyes did not see it." {Glory be to You} meaning "should you not say, 'Glory be to You'?" {This is a great slander} meaning should you not say the like of what Sa'd b. Mu'adh al-Ansari said? That is because when Sa'd heard the saying of those who spoke about the affair of 'A'ishah, he said, "Glory be to You! This is a great slander." And the slander is that which one fabricates, saying what did not happen.
