✧ The Prophet ﷺ tapped my back with a stick he had with him, and he turned aside, and I turned aside with him until we reached—I do not know where in the land. He made his camel kneel and dismounted, then went off until he was hidden from me. Then he came back and said, "Do you have any water with you?" I had a small water skin with me, so I poured water for him. He washed his palms and his face, then went to wash his forearms while wearing a Syrian jubba with tight sleeves, so he took his hands out from under the garment and washed his hands, his face, and his forearms, and wiped—Ibn 'Awn said: he mentioned something about his forelock and his turban, but I am not sure whether I got it right—and he wiped over his leather socks. Then he said, "Do you need anything?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have no need." So we set off and came to the people, and Ibn 'Awf had already led them in the dawn prayer. He had prayed one rak'ah with them, and I went to alert him, but he prevented me. So we prayed what we caught up with and made up what we had missed.
