حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ
أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لِصَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ لَيْلَةً فَأَخَّرَ بِهَا حَتَّى ظَنَّ الظَّانُّ أَنْ قَدْ صَلَّى وَلَيْسَ بِخَارِجٍ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ خَرَجَ بَعْدُ فَقَالَ لَهُ قَائِلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَقَدْ ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّكَ صَلَّيْتَ وَلَسْتَ بِخَارِجٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَعْتِمُوا بِهَذِهِ الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّكُمْ قَدْ فُضِّلْتُمْ بِهَا عَلَى سَائِرِ الْأُمَمِ وَلَمْ يُصَلِّهَا أَحَدٌ قَبْلَكُمْ»

✧ We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the ‘Isha prayer one night, and he delayed it until one might think that he had already prayed and was not going to come out. Then he came out afterward, and a person said to him: O Messenger of Allah, I thought that you had prayed and were not going to come out. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Delay this prayer (i.e., pray it later into the night), for you have been favored with it over all other nations, and no one before you prayed it.”
