حَدَّثَنَا عُمَارَةُ بْنُ وَثِيمَةَ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ زِبْرِيقٍ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَالِمٍ عَنِ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُكَلِّمُ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَأَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُنْصِتَ ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ كَمَا كَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ فَقَالَ وَنَحْنُ نَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ فَقَالَ وَنَحْنُ نَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ ابْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَشَيْءٌ رَأَيْتَهُ أَمْ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَبَّرَ حِينَ سَمِعَ الْمُؤَذِّنَ فَإِذَا قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ» وَإِذَا قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنِّي رَسُولُ اللهِ»

✧ He was speaking with Muawiyah when the muezzin called the adhan. He ordered him to listen quietly, then he said takbir as he said takbir. Then when the muezzin said 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,' he said 'And we bear witness that there is no god but Allah.' When the muezzin said 'I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,' he said 'And we bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.' Ibn Hubayra said: I asked him, 'Is this something you saw or heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He replied, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say takbir when he heard the muezzin. When he said 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,' he said 'And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah.' And when he said 'I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,' he said 'And I bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah.'"
