حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ ثنا أَبِي ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ يَقُولُ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ «إِنَّمَا أَنَا خَازِنٌ وَإِنَّمَا يُعْطِي اللهُ فَمَنْ أَعْطَيْتُهُ عَطَاءً وَأَنَا طَيِّبَةٌ بِهِ نَفْسِي فَإِنَّهُ يُبَارَكُ لَهُ فِيهِ وَمَنْ أَعْطَيْتُهُ عَطَاءً عَنْ شَرَهِ نَفْسٍ وَشِدَّةِ مَسْأَلَةٍ فَهُوَ كَالَّذِي يَأْكُلُ وَلَا يَشْبَعُ»

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say on the pulpit: "I am only a treasurer, and it is Allah who gives. So whoever I give a gift to while I am content with it, he is blessed in it. And whoever I give a gift to because of greed of the soul and intense asking, he is like one who eats but is never satisfied."
