✧ He informed him that he was sitting in the market when a woman passed carrying a child. The people rose, and I rose with them, and we went until we reached the Prophet ﷺ while he was saying: "Who is the father of this child with you?" She remained silent. A young man beside her said: "I am his father, O Messenger of God." He turned to her and said: "Who is the father of this child with you?" She remained silent. The young man said: "O Messenger of God, she is young in age, recently wed, and she will not speak to you. I am his father, O Messenger of God." The Prophet ﷺ looked at some of his companions as if asking them about him. They said: "We know nothing but good," or something like that. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: "Have you been married?" He said: "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ ordered that he be stoned. We went out with him and dug for him until we made it possible, then we threw stones at him until he became still. Then we returned to our gatherings. While we were thus, an old man came asking about the stoned man. We stood up to him, seized him by the collar, and took him to the Prophet ﷺ. We said: "O Messenger of God, this man came asking about the wicked one." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Stop! He is more fragrant to God than the scent of musk." We left with the old man, and behold, he was his father. We reached him and helped him with his washing, shrouding, and burial. He said: "I do not know whether he said the prayer over him or not."
