حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ الْقَاضِي ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَعَارِمٌ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ قَالَا ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ثنا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَلَّبِ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ
أَغَارَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى سَرْحِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَذَهَبُوا بِهِ وَكَانَتِ الْعَضْبَاءُ فِيمَا ذَهَبُوا بِهِ وَأَسَرُوا امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَكَانُوا إِذَا اللَّيْلُ يُرِيحُونَ إِبِلَهُمْ فِي أَفْنِيَتِهِمْ فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْضُ اللَّيْلِ قَامَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ لَيْلَةً وَقَدْ ثُوِّبُوا فَجَعَلَتْ لَا تَضَعُ يَدَهَا عَلَى بَعِيرٍ إِلَّا رَغَا حَتَّى أَتَتْ عَلَى الْعَضْبَاءِ فَأَتَتْ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ ذَلُولٍ مَحْرُوسَةٍ فَرَكِبَتْهَا وَجَعَلَتْ إِنِ اللهُ ﷻ أَنْجَاهَا عَلَيْهَا لَتَنْحَرَهَا فَلَمَّا قَدِمَتْ عَرَفَتِ النَّاقَةَ قِيلَ نَاقَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأُتِيَ بِهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأُخْبِرَ بِنَذْرِهَا فَقَالَ «شَرُّ مَا جَزَيْتِهَا إِنِ اللهُ أَنْجَاهَا عَلَيْهَا لَتَنْحَرِينَهَا لَا وَفَاءَ لِنَذْرٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةٍ وَلَا فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ ابْنُ آدَمَ»

✧ The polytheists raided the grazing camels of Madinah and drove them off. Al-ʿAdbaʾ was among what they took, and they captured a woman from the Muslims. When night came, they would let their camels rest in their courtyards. In the middle of the night, the woman got up one night after they had fallen asleep, and she began to place her hand on no camel except that it brayed, until she came to al-ʿAdbaʾ. She came upon a docile, guarded she-camel and mounted it, and she vowed: ‘If Allah ﷻ saves her by means of it, I will certainly slaughter it.’ When she arrived, the she-camel was recognized, and it was said, ‘The she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’ The Prophet ﷺ was brought the she-camel, and he was told of her vow, so he said: ‘What an evil reward you would have given it! If Allah saves her by means of it, you will certainly slaughter it. There is no fulfillment of a vow in disobedience, nor in what a son of Adam does not own.’”
