حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ كَامِلٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ عَنْ يُونُسَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْخَفَّافُ ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَهُوَ حَلِيفُ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ وَكَانَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَأَتَى بِجِزْيَتِهَا وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ صَالَحَ أَهْلَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ فَقَدِمَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بِمَالٍ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَسَمِعَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ بِقُدُومِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ فَوَافَوْا صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ وتَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ رَآهُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَظُنُّكُمْ سَمِعْتُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ قَدِمَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ؟» قَالُوا أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَأَبْشِرُوا بِمَا يَسُرُّكُمْ فَوَاللهِ مَا الْفَقْرُ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَكِنْ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تُبْسَطَ عَلَيْكُمُ الدُّنْيَا كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا وَتُهْلِكَكُمْ كَمَا أَهْلَكَتْهُمْ»

✧ He informed him that 'Amr b. 'Awf, who was an ally of Banu 'Amir b. Lu'ayy and had witnessed Badr with the Messenger of God ﷺ, informed him that the Prophet ﷺ sent Abu 'Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah to al-Bahrayn, and he brought its jizya. The Prophet ﷺ had made peace with the people of al-Bahrayn and appointed al-'Ala' b. al-Hadrami over them. Abu 'Ubaydah arrived with wealth from al-Bahrayn, and the Ansar heard of the arrival of Abu 'Ubaydah, so they attended the dawn prayer with the Prophet ﷺ. When the Messenger of God ﷺ had prayed, he left, and they approached him. The Messenger of God ﷺ smiled when he saw them, then said: 'I think you have heard that Abu 'Ubaydah has brought something from al-Bahrayn?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of God.' He said: 'Rejoice in what pleases you. By God, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but I fear for you that the world will be spread out for you as it was spread out for those before you, and you will compete for it as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them.'
