✧ He informed him that 'Amr b. 'Awf al-Ansari, who was an ally of Banu 'Amir b. Lu'ayy and had witnessed Badr with the Messenger of God ﷺ, informed him that the Messenger of God ﷺ sent Abu 'Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah to al-Bahrayn, and he brought its jizya. The Messenger of God ﷺ had made peace with the people of al-Bahrayn and appointed al-'Ala' b. al-Hadrami over them. Abu 'Ubaydah arrived with wealth from al-Bahrayn, and the Ansar heard of the arrival of Abu 'Ubaydah, so they attended the dawn prayer with the Messenger of God ﷺ. When the Messenger of God ﷺ had prayed with them, they left and approached him. The Messenger of God ﷺ smiled when he saw them, then said: 'I think you have heard that Abu 'Ubaydah has brought something?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of God.' He said: 'Rejoice and hope for what pleases you. By God, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but I fear that the world will be spread out for you as it was spread out for those before you, and you will compete for it as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them.'
