✧ Ali ؓ addressed them, but they interrupted his sermon. He said: I was only weakened the day Uthman ؓ was killed. And he struck for them a parable: the parable of three bulls and a lion who met in a thicket — a black one, a red one, and a white one. Whenever the lion wanted one of them, they gathered together against him and resisted him. So the lion said to the black one and the red one: The one who disgraces us in our thicket and exposes us is this white one. Let me eat him, so that your color will match mine and my color will match yours. The lion attacked him, and it was not long before he killed him. Then he said to the black one: The one who disgraces us and exposes us in our thicket is this red one. Let me eat him, so that my color will match yours and your color will match mine. He attacked him and killed him. Then he said to the black one: I will eat you. He said: Let me cry out three cries. So he cried out: Indeed, I was eaten the day the white one was eaten. Indeed, I was eaten the day the white one was eaten. Indeed, I was eaten the day the white one was eaten. Indeed, I was only weakened the day Uthman was killed.
