حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ: نَا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى: نَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ الْجَزَرِيُّ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَاجٍ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:

أَكَلْتُ ثَرِيدَةً بِلَحْمٍ سَمِينٍ، فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أَتَجَشَّأُ، فَقَالَ: " اكْفُفْ عَلَيْكَ جُشَاءَكَ أَبَا جُحَيْفَةَ، فَإِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ شِبَعًا فِي الدُّنْيَا أَطْوَلُهُمْ جُوعًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ. فَمَا أَكَلَ أَبُو جُحَيْفَةَ مِلْءَ بَطْنِهِ حَتَّى فَارَقَ الدُّنْيَا، كَانَ إِذَا تَغَدَّى لَا يَتَعَشَّى، وَإِذَا تَعَشَّى لَا يَتَغَدَّى

Translation

✧ I ate a tharida with fatty meat, then I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ while I was burping. He said: "Restrain your burping, O Abu Juhayfa, for the most satiated of people in this world will be the longest in hunger on the Day of Resurrection." Abu Juhayfa never ate to the fill of his stomach until he departed this world; when he had lunch he would not have dinner, and when he had dinner he would not have lunch.
