حَدَّثَنَا مَسْعُودُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ: ثَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ هَارُونَ: ثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْأَسْوَدِ، سَمِعَ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ، يُخْبِرُ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ، أَنَّ أُمَّهَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ، أَخْبَرَتْهَا
أَنَّ ابْنَةَ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْعَدَوِيِّ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَقَالَتِ: ابْنَتِي تُوُفِّيَ زَوْجُهَا، وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ، وَهِيَ تَشْتَكِي عَيْنَهَا، أَفَتَكْتَحِلُ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا "، ثُمَّ صَمَتَتْ سَاعَةً، ثُمَّ قَالَتْ لَهُ أَيْضًا: إِنَّهَا تَشْتَكِي عَيْنَهَا، أَفَتَكْتَحِلُ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا "، ثُمَّ قَالَ: لَا يَحِلُّ لِامْرَأَةٍ أَنْ تُحِدَّ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ، إِلَّا عَلَى زَوْجٍ

✧ The daughter of Nu'aym b. 'Abd Allah al-'Adawi came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "My daughter's husband has died. She was married to al-Mughira al-Makhzumi, and she has a complaint in her eye. May she apply kohl?" He said: "No." Then she was silent for a while, then said to him again: "She has a complaint in her eye. May she apply kohl?" He said: "No." Then he said: "It is not lawful for a woman to mourn beyond three days, except for a husband."
