✧ Ibn Abbas said: (There is no blame on him to go round them both) meaning: whoever leaves it, there is no harm upon him. This reached Aishah, and she said: "It is not as he said. If it were as he said, it would be 'There is no blame on him not to go round them both.'" Then she said: "In pre-Islamic times there were two idols on Safa and Marwah, between which they used to circumambulate. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ destroyed them as he destroyed the idols, the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ felt uneasy about circumambulating between Safa and Marwah, and they said: 'We used to circumambulate only for the sake of the two idols, and Allah has destroyed them.' So Allah sent down: Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the rites of Allah, meaning among the rituals of Hajj, so do not feel uneasy about going round between them."
