حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ فَادِكٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى أَبُو غَسَّانَ السُّكَّرِيُّ قَالَ: نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُحَادَةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي قَالَ: قَالَ الْحَسَنُ:
إِنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ مَسْلَمَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سَيْفًا، فَأَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ، وَاشْتَرَطَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَالسَّيْفُ فِي يَدِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَدْفَعَهُ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: هَاءَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ، قَاتِلْ بِهِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ مَا قُوتِلُوا، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اقْتَتَلُوا فَاعْمِدْ بِهِ إِلَى أُحُدٍ فَاكْسِرْهُ

✧ Muhammad b. Maslama al-Ansari asked the Messenger of God ﷺ for a sword, so he gave it to him. The Messenger of God ﷺ stipulated to him while the sword was in his hand before he handed it to him, saying: "Here, O Muhammad, fight with it against the polytheists as long as they are fought; but when you see the Muslims fighting one another, then strike it against Uhud and break it."
