  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIt is a hadith known through the narration of Yūnus from al-Zuhrī, and ʿUqayl followed him from al-Zuhrī, through the narration of Nāfiʿ b. Yazīd from ʿUqayl. Al-Wāqidī narrated it from Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī, and Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal and Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn rejected it from him, and both said: No one narrated this except Yūnus from al-Zuhrī. Then it was found in Egypt through the narration of Nāfiʿ b. Yazīd from ʿUqayl. As for the hadith of Yūnus from al-Zuhrī, Ibn Wahb narrated it from him, from Ibn al-Mubārak, and Mindal b. ʿAlī; they narrated it from al-Zuhrī from Umm Salamah. Al-Awzāʿī narrated it from Yūnus from Yūnus, and it seems that al-Awzāʿī did not memorize its chain from Yūnus and so transmitted it as a mursal. Khāzim b. Yaḥyā al-Ḥulwānī narrated this hadith from Ibn Abī al-Sarī from ʿAbd al-Razzāq from Maʿmar from Ibn al-Mubārak from Yūnus, and he erred in it; rather ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated it from Ibn al-Mubārak, without Maʿmar in it.

machine translationThis is a good and sound (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ) hadith.

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationNabhān, the freedman of Umm Salamah, is not one whose hadith is used as evidence, and he claimed that he narrated only two objectionable (munkar) hadiths.

machine translationThe hadith of ʿĀʾishah is more authentic than the hadith of Nabhān, because Nabhān is not known for transmitting knowledge and narrates only two hadiths: this one, and the one about the mukātab, that if he has with him what he needs to pay, his mistress must veil herself from him. So the hadith of Nabhān is not to be acted upon, because it conflicts with the established hadiths.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 3019
  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

machine translationIts chain is strong. The most that has been given as a flaw in it is that al-Zuhrī was alone in narrating from Nabhān, and that is not a damaging flaw.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 3019
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationNabhān is unknown (majhūl); no one narrated from him except Ibn Shihāb. Ibn Shihāb narrated two hadiths from him that have no basis: one of them is this, and the other is the hadith of the mukātab, that if he has with him what is harmful, it becomes obligatory to veil from him. He said: They are two hadiths that have no basis, and he rejected them. He said: The hadith of Fāṭimah bint Qays is a hadith with a sound chain, and the argument from it is binding. He said: And the hadith of Nabhān does not establish an argument.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 3019
  • Qurṭubī

machine translationThis hadith is not authentic according to the scholars of transmission, because its narrator from Umm Salamah is Nabhān, her freedman, and he is one whose hadith is not used as evidence.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 3019
  • al-Tirmidhi

machine translationIt is good (ḥasan), and no attention is paid to the criticism of one who criticized it without a reliable proof.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 3019
