What scholars said about it

  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

لا علة له عندي إلا تدليس ابن جريج فإن وجد عنه التصريح بالسماع فلا مانع من الحكم بصحته في نقدي

machine translationI find no defect in it except the tadlīs (concealment) of Ibn Jurayj. If an explicit statement of hearing (taṣrīḥ bi-l-samāʿ) from him is found, then in my assessment there is nothing preventing a ruling that it is sound (ṣaḥīḥ).

    in سنن النسائي, p. 5227
  • Abū Daʾūd

    منكر

    machine translationRejected (munkar)

    in سنن النسائي, p. 5227
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIt was narrated by ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ḥārith al-Makhzūmī, Ḥajjāj, Abū ʿĀṣim, Hishām b. Sulaymān and Mūsā b. Ṭāriq, from Ibn Jurayj, from Ziyād b. Saʿd, from al-Zuhrī, from Anas, that he saw a gold ring on the hand of the Prophet ﷺ, so the people made rings for themselves, and the Prophet ﷺ threw it away and said: "I will never wear it." This is the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version, and it is the sound (ṣaḥīḥ) one from Ibn Jurayj.
