أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا النَّضْرُ وَأَبُو عَامِرٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي عَوْنٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا صَالِحٍ الْحَنَفِيَّ وَاسْمُهُ مَاهَانُ يَقُولُ

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ أَهْدَيْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حُلَّةً سِيَرَاءَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَيَّ فَلَبِسْتُهَا فَعَرَفْتُ الْغَضَبَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أُعْطِكَهَا لِتَلْبَسْهَا» فَأَمَرَنِي فَأَطَرْتُهَا بَيْنَ نِسَائِي قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ كَذَا قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ مَاهَانُ وَالصَّوَابُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ قَيْسٍ أَخُو طَلِيقٍ وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ

✧ I heard Ali say: I gifted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a striped silk suit, and he sent it back to me. I wore it, and I recognized anger in his face. He said: “Indeed, I did not give it to you to wear.” Then he ordered me, and I distributed it among my womenfolk. Abu Abd al-Rahman said: Thus said Ishaq Mahan, but the correct name is Abd al-Rahman b. Qays, the brother of Taliq. Shu'bah narrated it from Abd al-Malik b. Maysarah, from Zayd b. Wahb, from Ali.
