أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنِ الْمَسْعُودِيِّ عَنْ جَامِعِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ لَمَّا رَجَعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَمَانَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ قَالَ «مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ؟» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ أَنَا قَالَ «إِنَّكَ تَنَامُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ؟» قَالَ فَقُلْتُ أَنَا قَالَ «إِنَّكَ تَنَامُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ؟» قَالَ «وَسَكَتَ الْقَوْمُ» فَقُلْتُ أَنَا قَالَ «فَأَنْتَ إِذًا» قَالَ «فَحَرَسْتُهُمْ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ فِي وَجْهِ الصُّبْحِ أَدْرَكَنِي» مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَنِمْتُ فَمَا اسْتَيْقَظْتُ إِلَّا بِحَرِّ الشَّمْسِ عَلَى أَكْتَافِنَا فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَنَعَ كَمَا كَانَ يَصْنَعُ» فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَوْ شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ لَا تَنَامُوا عَنْهَا لَمْ تَنَامُوا وَلَكِنْ أَرَادَ اللهُ أَنْ تَكُونَ سُنَّةً لِمَنْ بَعْدَكُمْ لِمَنْ نَامَ أَوْ نَسِيَ»

✧ 'Abd Allah said: When the Prophet ﷺ returned at the time of al-Hudaybiyyah, he said, "Who will guard us tonight?" 'Abd Allah said, "I will." He said, "You will sleep." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who will guard us tonight?" I said, "I will." He said, "You will sleep." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who will guard us tonight?" He said, "The people remained silent." I said, "I will." He said, "Then you are the one." He said, "So I guarded them until, when it was near dawn, what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said overtook me, and I slept. I did not wake up except from the heat of the sun on our shoulders. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up and did as he used to do." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Had Allah willed that you not sleep through it, you would not have slept. But Allah wanted it to be a sunnah for those after you, for one who sleeps or forgets."
