أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

دَارَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ دَوْرَةً فَقَالَ «أَعِنْدَكِ شَيْءٌ؟» قُلْتُ لَيْسَ عِنْدِي شَيْءٌ قَالَ «فَأَنَا صَائِمٌ» قَالَتْ ثُمَّ دَارَ عَلَيَّ الثَّانِيَةَ وَقَدْ أُهْدِي لَنَا حَيْسٌ فَجِئْتُ بِهِ فَأَكَلَ فَعَجِبْتُ مِنْهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ دَخَلْتَ عَلَيَّ وَأَنْتَ صَائِمٌ ثُمَّ أَكَلْتَ حَيْسًا؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ يَا عَائِشَةُ إِنَّهَا مَنْزِلَةُ مَنْ صَامَ فِي غَيْرِ رَمَضَانَ وَفِي غَيْرِ قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ أَوْ فِي التَّطَوُّعِ بِمَنْزِلَةِ رَجُلٍ أَخْرَجَ صَدَقَةَ مَالِهِ فَجَادَ مِنْهَا بِمَا شَاءَ فَأَمْضَاهُ وَبَخِلَ بِمَا بَقِيَ فَأَمْسَكَهُ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came around to me and said: "Do you have anything?" I said: "I have nothing." He said: "Then I am fasting." She said: Then he came around to me a second time, and some hais had been given to us, so I brought it to him and he ate. I was surprised and said: "O Messenger of Allah, you came in to me fasting, then you ate hais?" He said: "Yes, O Aisha. The status of one who fasts outside Ramadan, or outside making up Ramadan, or in voluntary fasting, is like a man who takes out charity from his wealth; he gives freely of it as he wishes and spends it, and he withholds what remains and keeps it back."
