أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ «هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ شَيْءٌ؟» فَقُلْتُ لَا قَالَ «فَإِنِّي صَائِمٌ» ثُمَّ مَرَّ بِي بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ وَقَدْ أُهْدِيَ لَنَا حَيْسٌ فَخَبَأْتُ لَهُ مِنْهُ وَكَانَ يُحِبُّ الْحَيْسَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ أُهْدِيَ لَنَا حَيْسٌ فَخَبَأْتُ لَكَ مِنْهُ قَالَ «أَدْنِيهِ أَمَا إِنِّي قَدْ أَصْبَحْتُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ» فَأَكَلَ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ صَوْمِ التَّطَوُّعِ مَثَلُ الرَّجُلِ يُخْرِجُ مِنْ مَالِهِ الصَّدَقَةَ فَإِنْ شَاءَ أَمْضَاهَا وَإِنْ شَاءَ حَبَسَهَا»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me one day and said: "Do you have anything?" I said no. He said: "Then I am fasting." Then he passed by me later that day, and some hais had been given to us, so I hid some for him, as he loved hais. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, some hais was given to us and I hid some for you." He said: "Bring it here. I began the day fasting." He ate from it, then said: "The example of a voluntary fast is like a man who takes out charity from his wealth; if he wishes he may give it, and if he wishes he may withhold it."
