أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَجِيءُ وَيَقُولُ «هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ غَدَاءٌ؟» فَنَقُولُ لَا فَيَقُولُ «إِنِّي صَائِمٌ» فَأَتَانَا يَوْمًا وَقَدْ أُهْدِيَ لَنَا حَيْسٌ فَقَالَ «هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ شَيْءٌ» قُلْنَا نَعَمْ أُهْدِيَ لَنَا حَيْسٌ قَالَ «أَمَا إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ أُرِيدُ الصَّوْمَ» فَأَكَلَ خَالَفَهُ قَاسِمُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ

Translation

  1. ʿAbdullāh b. al-Haytham

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to come and say: "Do you have any lunch?" We would say no, and he would say: "I am fasting." One day he came to us after some hais had been given to us, and he said: "Do you have anything?" We said: "Yes, some hais was given to us." He said: "I began the day intending to fast," and he ate. Qasim b. Yazid disagreed with this.
