أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَأَى حُلَّةً عِنْدَ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَوِ اشْتَرَيْتَ هَذِهِ فَلَبِسْتُهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَلِلْوَفْدِ إِذَا قَدِمُوا عَلَيْكَ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ هَذِهِ مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ» ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْهَا فَأَعْطَى عُمَرَ مِنْهَا حُلَّةً فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَسَوْتَنِيهَا وَقَدْ قُلْتَ فِي حُلَّةِ عُطَارِدٍ مَا قُلْتَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَمْ أَكْسُكَهَا لِتَلْبَسَهَا فَكَسَاهَا عُمَرُ أَخًا لَهُ مُشْرِكًا بِمَكَّةَ»

✧ O Messenger of Allah, why do you not buy this garment and wear it on Friday and for delegations when they come to you? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Only one who has no share in the Hereafter wears this." Then some of these garments came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave Umar a suit from them. Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, you gave me it to wear, but you said about the suit of Utarid what you said." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I did not give it to you to wear." So Umar gave it to a polytheist brother of his in Makkah.
