✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while he was sitting in the mosque one day—Rifa'ah said: and we were with him—a man came like a Bedouin and prayed, making his prayer very brief. Then he turned and greeted the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said, "And upon you, go back and pray, for you have not prayed." He went back and prayed. Then he came and greeted him, and he said, "And upon you, go back and pray, for you have not prayed." He did that two or three times, each time coming to the Prophet ﷺ and greeting him, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "And upon you, go back, for you have not prayed." The people were disturbed and it weighed heavily on them that someone whose prayer was brief had not prayed. In the end the man said, "Show me or teach me, for I am only human; I err and I make mistakes." He said to the man, "When you stand for prayer, perform wudu' as Allah has commanded you, then say the tashahhud, then the iqamah, then say the takbir. If you have Qur'an with you, recite it; otherwise praise Allah, magnify Him, and declare His oneness. Then bow and be at ease in bowing. Then stand up straight. Then prostrate and be at ease in prostration. Then sit and be at ease in sitting. Then stand. If you do that, your prayer is complete, and if you omit anything from it, you have diminished your prayer, but not lost it all."
