أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَوْرٍ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَوْسِ بْنِ الْحَدَثَانِ أَنَّ عُمَرَ قَالَ
سَأُخْبِرُكُمْ بِهَذَا الْفَيْءِ إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى خَصَّ نَبِيَّهُ ﷺ بِشَيْءٍ لَمْ يُعْطِهِ غَيْرَهُ فَقَالَ {وَمَا أَفَاءَ اللهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ مِنْهُمْ فَمَا أَوْجَفْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ خَيْلٍ وَلَا رِكَابٍ} [الحشر 6] فَكَانَتْ هَذِهِ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ خَاصَّةً فَوَاللهِ مَا اخْتَارَهَا دُونَكُمْ وَلَا اسْتَأْثَرَ بِهَا عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَقَدْ قَسَمَهَا عَلَيْكُمْ حَتَّى بَقِيَ مِنْهَا هَذَا الْمَالُ فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُنْفِقُ مِنْهُ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ سَنَتَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُ مَا بَقِيَ فِي مَالِ اللهِ ﷻ مُخْتَصَرٌ

✧ “I will tell you about this fayʾ. God, Exalted, singled out His Prophet ﷺ with something He did not give to anyone else. He said: {And what God restored to His Messenger from them, you did not spur on for it any horses or riding camels} [al-Ḥashr 6]. So this was exclusively for the Messenger of God ﷺ. By God, he did not choose it instead of you, nor did he keep it for himself above you. He distributed it among you until there remained of it this wealth. The Messenger of God ﷺ used to spend from it on his family for their year, then make what remained into the wealth of God, Mighty and Majestic.” Abbreviated.
