أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَفَّانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى {مَا قَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ لِينَةٍ أَوْ تَرَكْتُمُوهَا قَائِمَةً عَلَى أُصُولِهَا فَبِإِذْنِ اللهِ وَلِيُخْزِيَ} [الحشر 5] الْفَاسِقِينَ قَالَ
اسْتَنْزَلُوهُمْ مِنْ حُصُونِهِمْ وَأُمِرُوا بِقِطْعِ النَّخْلِ فَحَاكَ فِي صُدُورِهِمْ فَقَالَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ قَدْ قَطَعْنَا بَعْضًا وَتَرَكْنَا بَعْضًا فَلَنَسْأَلَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ هَلْ لَنَا فِيمَا قَطَعْنَا مِنْ أَجْرٍ؟ وَهَلْ عَلَيْنَا فِيمَا تَرَكْنَا مِنْ وِزْرٍ؟ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {مَا قَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ لِينَةٍ أَوْ تَرَكْتُمُوهَا قَائِمَةً} [الحشر 5] قَالَ كَانَ عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ عَنْ حَبِيبٍ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَحَدَّثَنَاهُ عَنْ حَفْصٍ
Translation

✧ They made them descend from their fortresses, and they were ordered to cut down the palm trees, so it troubled their hearts. The Muslims said, “We have cut down some and left some. We will surely ask the Messenger of God ﷺ: Is there any reward for what we cut down, and is there any sin upon us for what we left?” So God, Mighty and Majestic, sent down: {Whatever you have cut down of a palm tree or left it standing} [al-Ḥashr 5]. He said: ʿAffān narrated this hadith to us from ʿAbd al-Wāḥid from Ḥabīb, then he retracted and narrated it to us from Ḥafṣ.
