أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ الَّذِي أَصَابَ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فِي سَبَبِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ يُقَالُ لَهَا جَرَادَةُ وَكَانَتْ أَحَبَّ نِسَائِهِ إِلَيْهِ وَكَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ نِسَاءَهُ أَوْ يَدْخُلَ الْخَلَاءَ أَعْطَاهَا الْخَاتَمَ فَجَاءَ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَرَادَةِ يُخَاصِمُونَ قَوْمًا إِلَى سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَكَانَ هَوَى سُلَيْمَانَ

أَنْ يَكُونَ الْحَقُّ لِأَهْلِ الْجَرَادَةِ فَيَقْضِيَ لَهُمْ فَعُوقِبَ حِينَ لَمْ يَكُنْ هَوَاهُ فِيهِمْ وَاحِدًا فَجَاءَ حِينَ أَرَادَ اللهُ أَنْ يَبْتَلِيَهُ فَأَعْطَاهَا الْخَاتَمَ وَدَخَلَ الْخَلَاءَ وَمَثَّلَ الشَّيْطَانُ فِي صُورَةِ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ هَاتِي خَاتَمِي فَأَعْطَتْهُ خَاتَمَهُ فَلَبِسَهُ فَلَمَّا لَبِسَهُ دَانَتْ لَهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ وَالْإِنْسُ وَالْجِنُّ وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ قَالَ فَجَاءَهَا سُلَيْمَانُ قَالَ هَاتِي خَاتَمِي قَالَتْ اخْرُجْ لَسْتَ بِسُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ إِنَّ ذَاكَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللهِ أُبْتَلَى بِهِ فَخَرَجَ فَجَعَلَ إِذَا قَالَ أَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ رَجَمُوهُ حَتَّى يُدْمُونَ عَقِبَهُ فَخَرَجَ يَحْمِلُ عَلَى شَاطِئِ الْبَحْرِ وَمَكَثَ هَذَا الشَّيْطَانُ فِيهِمْ مُقِيمًا يَنْكِحُ نِسَاءَهُ وَيَقْضِي بَيْنَهُمْ فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ اللهُ ﷻ أَنْ يَرُدَّ عَلَى سُلَيْمَانَ مُلْكَهُ انْطَلَقَتِ الشَّيَاطِينُ وَكَتَبُوا كُتُبًا فِيهَا سِحْرٌ وَفِيهَا كُفْرٌ فَدَفَنُوهَا تَحْتَ كُرْسِيِّ سُلَيْمَانَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ ثُمَّ أَثَارُوهَا وَقَالُوا هَذَا كَانَ يَفْتِنُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنْسَ قَالَ فَأَكْفَرَ النَّاسُ سُلَيْمَانَ حَتَّى بَعَثَ اللهُ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ {وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمَانُ وَلَكِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ كَفَرُوا} [البقرة 102] يَقُولُ الَّذِي صَنَعُوا [13] فَخَرَجَ سُلَيْمَانُ يَحْمِلُ عَلَى شَاطِئِ الْبَحْرِ قَالَ وَلَمَّا أَنْكَرَ النَّاسُ لَمَّا أَرَادَ اللهُ أَنْ يَرُدَّ عَلَى سُلَيْمَانَ مُلْكَهُ أَنْكَرُوا انْطَلَقَتِ الشَّيَاطِينُ جَاءُوا إِلَى نِسَائِهِ فَسَأَلُوهُنَّ فَقُلْنَ إِنَّهُ لَيَأْتِينَا وَنَحْنُ حُيَّضٌ وَمَا كَانَ يَأْتِينَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَلَمَّا رَأَى الشَّيْطَانُ أَنَّهُ حَضَرَ هَلَاكُهُ هَرَبَ وَأَرْسَلَ بِهِ فَأَلْقَاهُ فِي الْبَحْرِ وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ فَتَلَقَّاهُ سَمَكَةٌ فَأَخَذَهُ وَخَرَجَ الشَّيْطَانُ حَتَّى لَحِقَ بِجَزِيرَةٍ فِي الْبَحْرِ وَخَرَجَ سُلَيْمَانُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يَحْمِلُ لِرَجُلٍ سَمَكًا قَالَ بِكَمْ تَحْمِلُ؟ قَالَ بِسَمَكَةٍ مِنْ هَذَا السَّمَكِ فَحَمَلَ مَعَهُ حَتَّى بَلَغَ بِهِ أَعْطَاهُ السَّمَكَةَ الَّتِي فِي بَطْنِهَا الْخَاتَمُ فَلَمَّا أَعْطَاهُ السَّمَكَةَ شَقَّ بَطْنَهَا يُرِيدُ يَشْوِيهَا فَإِذَا الْخَاتَمُ فَلَبِسَهُ فَأَقْبَلَ إِلَيْهِ الْإِنْسُ وَالشَّيَاطِينُ فَأَرْسَلَ فِي طَلَبِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَجَعَلُوا لَا يُطِيقُونَهُ فَقَالَ احْتَالُوا لَهُ فَذَهَبُوا فَوَجَدُوهُ نَائِمًا قَدْ سَكِرَ فَبَنَوْا عَلَيْهِ بَيْتًا مِنْ رَصَاصٍ ثُمَّ جَاءُوا لِيَأْخُذُوهُ فَوَثَبَ فَجَعَلَ لَا يَثِبُ فِي نَاحِيَةٍ إِلَّا أَمَاطَ الرَّصَاصَ مَعَهُ فَأَخَذُوهُ فَجَاءُوا بِهِ إِلَى سُلَيْمَانَ فَأَمَرَ بِحِنْتٍ مِنْ رُخَامٍ فَنُقِرَ ثُمَّ أَدْخَلَهُ فِي جَوْفِهِ ثُمَّ سَدَّهُ بِالنُّحَاسِ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهِ فَطُرِحَ فِي الْبَحْرِ

✧ That the truth should be for the people of the locust and that he should judge in their favor, so he was punished when his desire was not one concerning them. Then he came when Allah wanted to test him, so he gave her the ring and entered the privy, and the devil took the form of Sulayman and said: Give me my ring. So she gave him his ring, and he put it on. When he put it on, the devils, humans, jinn, and everything submitted to him. Then Sulayman came to her and said: Give me my ring. She said: Go away, you are not Sulayman. Sulayman ﷺ said: That is from Allah's decree, by which I am being tested. So he went out, and whenever he said: I am Sulayman, they stoned him until they made his heel bleed. He went out carrying loads on the seashore. This devil remained among them, marrying his wives and judging between them. When Allah, mighty and sublime, wanted to restore Sulayman's kingdom, the devils went and wrote books containing sorcery and disbelief, and buried them under Sulayman's ﷺ throne. Then they unearthed them and said: This is what he used to tempt jinn and humans with. So the people disbelieved Sulayman until Allah sent Muhammad ﷺ, and Allah, mighty and sublime, sent down to Muhammad ﷺ: {Sulayman did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved} [al-Baqarah: 102], meaning what they fabricated. Then Sulayman went out carrying loads on the seashore. When the people denied, when Allah wanted to restore Sulayman's kingdom, they denied, the devils went and came to his wives and asked them, and they said: He comes to us while we are menstruating, and he did not used to come to us before that. When the devil saw that his destruction was near, he fled and sent it, and threw it into the sea. In the hadith: a fish received it and took it, and the devil went out until he reached an island in the sea. Sulayman ﷺ went out carrying fish for a man. He said: For how much will you carry? He said: For a fish from this fish. So he carried with him until he brought him, and he gave him the fish that had the ring in its belly. When he gave him the fish, he split its belly, intending to grill it, and behold, the ring. So he put it on, and humans and devils came to him. He sent in pursuit of the devil, and they could not overpower him. He said: Use a trick against him. So they went and found him asleep, drunk. They built over him a house of lead, then they came to seize him, and he jumped, and whenever he jumped in a direction, he moved the lead with him. They seized him and brought him to Sulayman, and he ordered a marble sarcophagus, so it was hollowed out, then he put him inside it, then sealed it with brass, then he ordered it to be thrown into the sea.
