أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
كَانَ آصِفُ كَاتِبَ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَكَانَ يَعْلَمُ الِاسْمَ الْأَعْظَمَ كَانَ يَكْتُبُ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ يَأْمُرُهُ بِهِ سُلَيْمَانُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَيَدْفُنُهُ تَحْتَ كُرْسِيِّهِ فَلَمَّا مَاتَ سُلَيْمَانُ أَخْرَجَتْهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ فَكَتَبُوا بَيْنَ كُلِّ سَطْرٍ مِنْ سِحْرٍ وَكَذِبٍ وَكُفْرٍ فَقَالُوا هَذَا الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْمَلُ سُلَيْمَانُ بِهَا فَأَكْفَرَهُ جُهَّالُ النَّاسِ وَسُفَهَاؤُهُمْ وَسَبُّوهُ وَوَقَفَ عُلَمَاؤُهُمْ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ جُهَّالُهُمْ يَسُبُّونَهُ حَتَّى أَنْزَلَ اللهُ جَلَّ وَعَزَّ {وَاتَّبَعُوا مَا تَتْلُوا الشَّيَاطِينُ عَلَى مُلْكِ سُلَيْمَانَ وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمَانُ وَلَكِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ كَفَرُوا} [البقرة 102]

✧ Asif was the scribe of Sulayman b. Dawud ﷺ, and he knew the greatest name of Allah. He used to write everything Sulayman ﷺ commanded him, and bury it under his throne. When Sulayman died, the devils took it out and wrote between every line sorcery, lies, and disbelief. They said: This is what Sulayman used to practice. So the ignorant and foolish people disbelieved him and cursed him, while their scholars remained silent. Their ignorant ones kept cursing him until Allah, glorious and mighty, sent down: {And they followed what the devils recited over the kingdom of Sulayman. Sulayman did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved} [al-Baqarah: 102].
