أَخْبَرَنِي مَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جَابِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَوْسَطَ الْبَجَلِيَّ يَقُولُ
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ يَقُولُ قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللهِ عَامَ أَوَّلَ فَبِأَبِي وَأُمِّي هُوَ ثُمَّ خَنَقَتْهُ الْعَبْرَةُ ثُمَّ عَادَ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَامَ الْأَوَّلِ يَقُولُ «سَلُوا اللهَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ وَالْمُعَافَاةَ فَإِنَّهُ مَا أُوتِيَ عَبْدٌ بَعْدَ يَقِينٍ خَيْرًا مِنْ مُعَافَاةٍ»

✧ I heard Abu Bakr say: The Messenger of Allah stood among us last year, may my father and mother be his ransom, then he was choked by tears. Then he returned and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ last year saying: “Ask Allah for pardon, well-being, and safety, for no servant has been given anything better after certainty than safety.”
