أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ عَنْ بَحِيرٍ عَنْ خَالِدٍ عَنْ سَيْفٍ عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُمْ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَضَى بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ فَقَالَ الْمَقْضِيُّ عَلَيْهِ حَسْبِيَ اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «رَدُّوا عَلَيَّ الرَّجُلَ» فَقَالَ «مَا قُلْتَ؟» قَالَ قُلْتُ حَسْبِيَ اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ يَلُومُ عَلَى الْعَجْزِ وَلَكِنْ عَلَيْكَ بِالْكَيْسِ وَإِذَا غَلَبَكَ أَمْرٌ فَقُلْ حَسْبِيَ اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ سَيْفٌ لَا أَعْرِفُهُ
Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ judged between two men, and the one against whom judgment was given said: Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Bring the man back to me. He said: What did you say? He said: I said: Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah censures helplessness, but you must be resourceful. If a matter overwhelms you, say: Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs. Abu Abd al-Rahman said: Sayf—I do not know him.
