وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ بْنُ أَبِي الرُّقَادِ، عَنْ زِيَادٍ النُّمَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ قَالَ:

إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ ؓ دَخَلَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ كَئِيبٌ، فَقَالَ: مَا لِي أَرَاكَ كَئِيبًا ؟ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كُنْتُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عَمٍّ لِي الْبَارِحَةَ فُلَانٍ، وَهُوَ يَكِيدُ بِنَفْسِهِ، قَالَ ﷺ: فَهَلَّا لَقَّنْتَهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ ؟ قَالَ: قَدْ فَعَلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ ﷺ: فَقَالَهَا ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ ﷺ: وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كَيْفَ هِيَ لِلْأَحْيَاءِ ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: هِيَ أَهْدَمُ لِذُنُوبِهِمْ، هِيَ أَهْدَمُ لِذُنُوبِهِمْ

Translation

✧ Abu Bakr ؓ entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and he was gloomy, so he said: Why do I see you gloomy? He said: O Messenger of Allah, I was with a cousin of mine last night, so-and-so, and he was in the throes of death. He ﷺ said: Did you not prompt him with La ilaha illa Allah? He said: I did, O Messenger of Allah. He ﷺ said: And did he say it? He said: Yes. He ﷺ said: Paradise is guaranteed for him. Abu Bakr ؓ said: O Messenger of Allah, how is it for the living? He ﷺ said: It is more destructive of their sins, it is more destructive of their sins
