✧ The Two Eid Prayers

قَالَ] إِسْحَاقُ: أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، أَنْبَأَنِي قُرَّةُ بْنُ أَبِي الصَّهْبَاءِ، عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ بَدْرٍ، قَالَ:
خَرَجَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ، فَرَأَى نَاسًا يُصَلُّونَ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، قَدْ شَهِدْنَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ فِي مِثْلِ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ، فَلَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ يُصَلِّي قَبْلَ الْعِيدِ، أَوْ قَبْلَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ. فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَلَا تَنْهَى أَنْ يُصَلُّوا قَبْلَ خُرُوجِ الْإِمَامِ ؟ فَقَالَ: لَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَنْهَى عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّى، وَلَكِنْ نُحَدِّثُهُمْ بِمَا شَهِدْنَا مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَوْ كَمَا [قَالَ]
Translation

✧ Ali ؓ went out on the day of Eid and saw some people praying. He said: O people, we were present with the Prophet of Allah ﷺ on a day like this, and no one prayed before the Eid prayer, or before the Prophet ﷺ. A man said: O Commander of the Believers, will you not forbid them to pray before the imam comes out? He said: I do not want to forbid a servant when he prays, but we tell them what we witnessed from the Prophet ﷺ, or as he said.
