✧ The virtue of walking to the mosques at night

وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ الْمُحَبَّرِ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبَانَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ قَالَ:

خَرَجْتُ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الْمَسْجِدَ، فَإِذَا أَنَا بِزَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ؓ، فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى مَنْكِبِي - يَتَوَكَّأُ عَلَيَّ - قَالَ: فَبَقِيتُ أَجُرُّ الْخَطْوَ - لِلشَّبَابِ - فَقَالَ لِي زَيْدٌ ؓ: قَرِّبْ خَطْوَكَ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: مَنْ مَشَى إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ كَانَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ خُطْوَةٍ عَشْرُ حَسَنَاتٍ

Translation

✧ I went out intending to go to the mosque, and there was Zayd b. Thabit ؓ, so he placed his hand on my shoulder, leaning on me. He said: I kept taking long strides, out of youthfulness, so Zayd ؓ said to me: 'Shorten your stride, for the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Whoever walks to the mosque will have ten good deeds for every step."'
