✧ Prostration of recitation during prayer and otherwise, and the permissibility of bowing at the prostration of recitation

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا الْجَرَّاحُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، ثَنَا الْيَمَانُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ: صَاحِبُ الدَّقِيقِ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ ؓ يَقُولُ:

رَأَيْتُ فِيمَا يَرَى النَّائِمُ كَأَنِّي تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ، وَكَأَنَّ الشَّجَرَةَ تَقْرَأُ ( ص ) فَلَمَّا أَتَتْ عَلَى السَّجْدَةِ: سَجَدَتْ فَقَالَتْ فِي سُجُودِهَا: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي بِهَا ذَنْبًا، اللَّهُمَّ حُطَّ عَنِّي بِهَا وِزْرًا، وَأَحْدِثْ لِي بِهَا شُكْرًا، وَتَقَبَّلْهَا مِنِّي كَمَا تَقَبَّلْتَ مِنْ عَبْدِكَ دَاوُدَ سَجْدَتَهُ. فَغَدَوْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: سَجَدْتَ أَنْتَ يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ ؟ قُلْتُ: لَا، قَالَ: فَإِنَّكَ أَحَقُّ بِالسُّجُودِ مِنَ الشَّجَرَةِ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سُورَةَ ( ص )، ثُمَّ أَتَى عَلَى السَّجْدَةِ، وَقَالَ فِي سُجُودِهِ مَا قَالَتِ الشَّجَرَةُ فِي سُجُودِهَا

✧ I saw in a dream as if I were under a tree, and as if the tree were reciting [Sūrat] Ṣād. When it reached the prostration, it prostrated and said in its prostration: 'O God, forgive me thereby a sin; O God, remove from me thereby a burden; grant me thereby gratitude; and accept it from me as You accepted from Your servant David his prostration.' So I went to the Messenger of God ﷺ and told him. He said: 'Did you prostrate, O Abū Saʿīd?' I said: 'No.' He said: 'You are more deserving of prostration than the tree.' Then the Messenger of God ﷺ recited Sūrat Ṣād, and when he came to the prostration, he said in his prostration what the tree had said in its prostration.
