✧ The Battle of the Camel

أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ مَوَالِي بَنِي تَمِيمٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ: أَبُو سُفْيَانَ:

إِنَّ عَاتِكَةَ امْرَأَةَ عُمَرَ قَالَتْ: غَدَرَ ابْنُ جُرْمُوزٍ بِفَارِسِ بُهْمَةٍ يَوْمَ اللِّقَاءِ وَكَانَ غَيْرَ مُعَرَّدِ يَا عَمْرُو، لَوْ نَبَّهْتَهُ لَوَجَدْتَهُ، لَا طَائِشًا رَعْشَ الْيَدَيْنِ وَلَا الْيَدِ شُلَّتْ يَمِينُكَ إِنْ قَتَلْتَ لَمُؤْمِنًا حَلَّتْ عَلَيْكَ عُقُوبَةُ الْمُتَعَمِّدِ

Translation

✧ Indeed 'Atikah, the wife of 'Umar, said: Ibn Jurmuz betrayed a stalwart horseman on the day of the encounter, and he was not one to flee. O 'Amr, had you alerted him, you would have found him, not one unsteady with trembling hands, nor one to lose his grip. May your right hand be paralyzed if you killed a believer; upon you has fallen the punishment of the deliberate killer.
