قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، قَالَ:
ذَكَرَ رَجُلَانِ عُثْمَانَ ؓ، فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا: قُتِلَ شَهِيدًا، فَتَعَلَّقَهُ الْآخَرُ، فَأَتَى بِهِ عَلِيًّا ؓ فَقَالَ: هَذَا يَزْعُمُ أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ ؓ قُتِلَ شَهِيدًا ؟! فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ ؓ: أَقُلْتَ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، أَمَا تَذْكُرُ يَوْمَ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَعِنْدَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ وَأَنْتَ، فَسَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَعْطَانِي، وَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ ؓ فَأَعْطَانِي، وَسَأَلْتُ عُمَرَ ؓ فَأَعْطَانِي، وَسَأَلْتُ عُثْمَانَ ؓ فَأَعْطَانِي، وَسَأَلْتُكَ فَمَنَعْتَنِي، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، ادْعُ اللهَ أَنْ يُبَارِكَ لِي، فَقَالَ ﷺ: وَمَا لَكَ أَلَّا يُبَارِكَ لَكَ وَقَدْ أَعْطَاكَ نَبِيٌّ وَصِدِّيقٌ وَشَهِيدَانِ ؟ " ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ. قَالَ ؓ: دَعُوهُ

✧ Two men mentioned Uthman ؓ. One of them said: He was killed as a martyr. The other clung to him and brought him to Ali ؓ, saying: This one claims that Uthman ؓ was killed as a martyr?! Ali ؓ said to him: Did you say that? He said: Yes. Do you not remember the day I came to the Prophet ﷺ and with him were Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and you? I asked the Prophet ﷺ and he gave me; I asked Abu Bakr ؓ and he gave me; I asked Umar ؓ and he gave me; I asked Uthman ؓ and he gave me; and I asked you and you refused me. I said: O Messenger of Allah, supplicate Allah to bless me. He said ﷺ: What prevents you from being blessed when a Prophet, a Siddiq, and two martyrs have given you? Three times. He said ؓ: Leave him.
