✧ There was a mutual reproach between Abu Bakr and Umar ؓ. Abu Bakr apologized to Umar ؓ, but he did not accept it from him. That reached the Messenger of God ﷺ, and it distressed him. Then Umar ؓ went to him and sat down, but he turned away from him. Then he moved and sat on the other side, but he turned away from him. Then he stood and sat in front of him, but he turned away from him. He said: "O Messenger of God, I see you turning away from me, and I do not think that is for anything except something that has reached you about me. What is the state of my kneeling while you turn away from me? By God, I do not care if I do not live in this world for even an hour while you are turning away from me." He ﷺ said: "You are the one to whom Abu Bakr apologized, and you did not accept it from him. I came to you all, and you said: 'You have lied,' while my companion said: 'You have spoken the truth.'" Then he ﷺ said: "Will you leave me and my companion alone?" three times.
