✧ We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ in the mosque, and his gaze ﷺ turned to a man walking in the mosque. He said: 'Labbayk, O Messenger of Allah,' and he did not dispute the speech except that he said: 'O Messenger of Allah.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Do you read the Torah?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'And the Gospel?' He said: 'Yes, and the Qur'an, and by the One in Whose hand is my soul, if I wished I could read it.' He said: 'Then he adjured him: Do you find me as a prophet in the Torah and the Gospel?' He said: 'I will tell you. We find one like you, and your appearance, and like your emergence, and we hoped that you would be among us. But when you emerged, we feared that you might be him, so we looked, and found that you are not him.' He ﷺ said: 'By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul, I am indeed him, and they are indeed my nation, and they are indeed more than seventy thousand and seventy thousand.'
