✧ People made too much of this verse: 'Say: I do not ask you any reward for it, except love for relatives.' So I wrote to Ibn Abbas ؓ, and Ibn Abbas ؓ wrote to me: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the central link of lineage in Quraysh; there was no clan of theirs but they had given birth to him. So Allah, the Most High, revealed: 'Say: I do not ask you any reward for it, except affection for what I call you to, except that you love me because of my kinship with you and preserve me for that.'
