أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَأَبُو الْأَشْعَثِ عَنْ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ {إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا لِيَغْفِرَ لَكَ اللهُ} [الفتح 2] مَرْجِعَهُ مِنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَهُمْ مُخَالِطُهُمُ الْحُزْنُ وَالْكَآبَةُ وَقَدْ نُحِرَ الْهَدْيُ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ فَقَالَ «لَقَدْ أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيَّ آيَةٌ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا جَمِيعًا» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا يَفْعَلُ بِكَ فَمَا يَفْعَلُ بِنَا؟ فَنَزَلَتْ {لَيُدْخِلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتَهَا الْأَنْهَارُ} [الفتح 5] إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا} [النساء 73] اللَّفْظُ لِعَمْرٍو

Translation

✧ When this verse was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ – {Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory, so that Allah may forgive you} [al-Fath: 2] – on his return from al-Hudaybiyyah, while they were filled with grief and distress, and the sacrificial animals had been slaughtered at al-Hudaybiyyah, he said: “A verse has been revealed to me that is more beloved to me than the entire world.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, we know what will be done with you, but what will be done with us?” Then it was revealed: {So that He may admit the believing men and believing women into gardens beneath which rivers flow} [al-Fath: 5] up to His saying {a great triumph} [al-Nisa’: 73]. The wording is that of ʿAmr.
