✧ Umar ؓ ascended the pulpit and said: 'O people, has any of you heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ explain Ha Mim 'Ain Sin Qaf?' Ibn Abbas ؓ jumped up and said to us: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Ha Mim: a name from the names of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.' He said: 'Then 'Ain?' He said: 'The polytheists witnessed the punishment of the day of Badr.' He said: 'Then Sin?' He said: 'And those who do wrong will come to know by what overthrowing they will be overthrown.' He said: 'Then Qaf?' He sat down and was silent. Umar ؓ said: 'I adjure you by Allah, the Most High, has any of you heard?' Abu Dharr ؓ jumped up and said the same as Ibn Abbas ؓ. He said: 'Then Qaf?' He said: 'A striking calamity from the sky that will afflict the people.'
