✧ Umar ؓ stopped at Al-Rawha' and saw people rushing to some stones. He said: What is this? They said: They say that the Prophet ﷺ prayed facing these stones. He said: Glory be to Allah! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was only riding and passed by a valley, and the prayer time came so he prayed. Then he narrated and said: I used to visit the Jews on the day of their study, and they said: None of your companions is more honored by us than you, because you come to us. I said: That is only because I marvel at the Books of Allah the Exalted, how they confirm one another, how the Torah confirms the Furqan and the Furqan confirms the Torah. The Prophet ﷺ passed by one day while I was speaking with them, and I said: I adjure you by Allah and by what you recite from His Book, do you know that he is the Messenger of Allah? They said: Yes. I said: Then you are ruined! By Allah, if you know that he is the Messenger of Allah, then why do you not follow him? They said: We are not ruined, but we asked him who brings him his prophethood, and he said: Our enemy Jibril, because he (peace and blessings be upon him) descends with severity, harshness, war, and destruction and the like. I said: Who is your ally among the angels? They said: Mika'il, he descends with rain and mercy and so on. I said: And what is their status with their Lord? They said: One of them is on His right, and the other on the other side. I said: Then it is not permissible for Jibril to be an enemy of Mika'il, nor is it permissible for Mika'il to make peace with the enemy of Jibril. I bear witness that they and their Lord are at peace with those who are at peace with them, and at war with those who are at war with them. Then I came to the Prophet ﷺ intending to inform him, but when I met him ﷺ he said: “Shall I not tell you of verses that have been sent down to me?” I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He ﷺ recited: Say: Whoever is an enemy to Jibril—for he brought it down upon your heart by Allah's permission, confirming what was before it, and as guidance and good tidings for the believers. I said: O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I did not leave your presence except to come to you to inform you of what they said to me and what I said to them, and I found that Allah the Exalted had preceded me. Umar ؓ said: I have seen myself as strong in Allah as a stone.
