✧ The Virtue of Fear of Allah the Exalted and Weeping from His Fear

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الرُّومِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ، عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَوْزَاءِ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ؓ قَالَ:

كُنَّا جُلُوسًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ فَهَاجَتِ الرِّيحُ فَوَقَعَ مَا كَانَ فِيهَا مِنْ وَرَقٍ نَخِرٍ، وَبَقِيَ مَا كَانَ فِيهَا مِنْ وَرَقٍ أَخْضَرَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: « مَا مَثَلُ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ ؟ » قَالُوا: اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ. قَالَ ﷺ: « مَثَلُهَا مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِذَا اقْشَعَرَّ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللهِ تَعَالَى وَقَعَتْ عَنْهُ ذُنُوبُهُ وَبَقِيَتْ لَهُ حَسَنَاتُهُ

✧ We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ under a tree when the wind blew and caused the withered leaves to fall, while the green leaves remained. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "What is the likeness of this tree?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He ﷺ said: "Its likeness is that of the believer: when he trembles out of fear of Allah the Exalted, his sins fall away from him and his good deeds remain."
