✧ Urging adherence to the Sunnah

قَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ سَمَّاهُ - أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: سَعِيدُ بْنُ خُثَيْمٍ - عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ؓ الَّذِينَ وَقَعُوا إِلَى الشَّامِ قَالَ:

وَعَظَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَوْعِظَةً مَرِضَتْ مِنْهَا الْجُلُودُ، وَذَرَفَتْ مِنْهَا الْعُيُونُ، وَوَجِلَتْ مِنْهَا الْقُلُوبُ فَقُلْنَا: كَأَنَّ هَذِهِ مَوْعِظَةُ وَدَاعٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَمَاذَا تَعْهَدُ إِلَيْنَا ؟ فَقَالَ ﷺ: أَنْ تَتَّقُوا اللهَ تَعَالَى، وَأَنْ تَتَّبِعُوا سُنَّتِي وَسُنَّةَ الْخُلَفَاءِ الْهَادِيَةَ الْمَهْدِيَّةَ مِنْ بَعْدِي، وَعَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ، فَإِنَّ كُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave us an admonition that made the skins tremble, the eyes shed tears, and the hearts quake. We said: 'It is as if this is the admonition of one bidding farewell, O Messenger of Allah, so what do you enjoin upon us?' He ﷺ said: 'That you fear Allah, the Exalted, and that you follow my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided, rightly led successors after me. Bite onto it with the molar teeth, for every innovation is misguidance.'
