✧ Warning Against Innovations

وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ الْحَدَّادُ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ شَيْخٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ، قَالَ:

وَعَظَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَوْعِظَةً فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَأَنَّمَا هَذِهِ مَوْعِظَةُ مُوَدِّعٍ. فَمَاذَا تَعْهَدُ إِلَيْنَا ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: أَعْهَدُ إِلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تَتَّقُوا اللهَ تَعَالَى، وَتَلْزَمُوا سُنَّتِي، وَسُنَّةَ الْخُلَفَاءِ الْهَادِيَةَ الْمَهْدِيَّةَ، عَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ، وَإِنِ اسْتُعْمِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ حَبَشِيٌّ فَاسْمَعُوا لَهُ وَأَطِيعُوا، وَإِنَّ كُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ admonished us with an admonition. A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, this is as if it is the admonition of one bidding farewell. So what do you enjoin upon us?' He ﷺ said: 'I enjoin you to fear Allah, the Exalted, and to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly-guided, rightly-directed caliphs. Bite onto it with the molar teeth. And if a black slave is placed in authority over you, listen to him and obey. And every innovation is misguidance.'
