✧ Delaying Asr and Praying It Early

قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ، قَالَ:

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَتَتْهُ الْجَارِيَةُ فَقَالَتِ: الصَّلَاةَ أَصْلَحَكَ اللهُ ! قَالَ: « أَيُّ الصَّلَاةِ ؟ » قَالَتْ: صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ، قَالَ: « أَوَقَدْ صَلَّيْتِهَا ؟ » قَالَتْ: قَدْ صَلَّيْتُهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ أَدْخُلَ إِلَيْكَ، قَالَ: « اسْتَأْخِرِي عَنِّي، لَمْ يَأْتِ الْعَصْرُ بَعْدُ » ثُمَّ رَاجَعَتْهُ، فَقَالَ لَهَا مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِ الْأَوَّلِ، ثُمَّ رَاجَعَتْهُ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: « قَدْ سَمِعْتُ مَا قُلْتِ، نَاوِلِينِي وَضُوءًا، فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ يُصَلُّونَ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ قَبْلَ وَقْتِهَا »، ثُمَّ صَلَّى

Translation

✧ I entered upon Anas b. Malik ؓ and he mentioned the hadith. He said: "Then a slave girl came to him and said: 'Prayer, may Allah keep you well!' He said: 'Which prayer?' She said: 'Asr prayer.' He said: 'Have you already prayed it?' She said: 'I prayed it before I entered upon you.' He said: 'Move away from me; Asr has not yet come.' Then she repeated, and he said to her the like of his first statement. Then she repeated and spoke to him, and he said: 'I have heard what you said. Hand me water for ablution, for the people pray this prayer before its time.' Then he prayed."
