✧ 'There is no man on earth who dies with an atom's weight of arrogance in his heart except that God will place him in the Fire.' A man from the Ansar said, 'O Messenger of God, I love beauty, in the strap of my sword, and washing my clothes from dirt, and in fine shoelaces and sandals.' He said, 'That is not what I mean; arrogance is only one who rejects the truth and disparages people.' He said, 'O Prophet of God, what is rejecting the truth and disparaging people?' He ﷺ said, 'Rejecting the truth is that you have a debt owed by a man, and he denies it, claiming he owes nothing, and a man commands him to fear God but he refuses. As for disparagement, it is one who approaches people with his nose in the air, and when he sees the weak and poor among people, he does not greet them or sit with them out of contempt for them; that is one who disparages people.' The Prophet ﷺ then said, 'Whoever patches his garment, mends his sandal, rides a donkey, visits the sick slave, and milks the sheep has freed himself from pride.'
