✧ Slaughtering What One Is Unable to Slaughter

✧ We bought a cow during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to share in its meat. It broke loose from us and became difficult to control. A freed slave of ours called Dhakwan confronted it with a sword in his hand while it was running about on the hard ground. It headed toward a hill, and when it passed by him, he struck it with the sword at the base of its neck or on its shoulder, piercing it with the sword, and it fell. We did not manage to slaughter it properly. I went out with 'Abd Allah b. Thabit b. al-Jidh' and we met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We mentioned its situation to him, and he said: 'Eat it. If any of these animals escapes you, restrain it with what you restrain a wild animal.'
