✧ We bought a cow in the time of the Prophet ﷺ to share in it, but it escaped from us and resisted us. A freed slave of ours named Dhakwan confronted it with a sword in his hand while it was roaming in the rocky highlands. It climbed a hill, and when it passed by him, he struck it with the sword at the base of its neck, or on its neck, and cut through it with the sword, and it fell. Its slaughter was not completed. I went out with Abdullah b. Thabit b. al-Jidh, and we met the Messenger of God ﷺ and mentioned its situation to him. He said: Eat, if any of these animals eludes you, then restrain it as you would restrain a wild animal.
